What do you think this goofy dream means?
I dreamed that my boyfriend was at my house. We were sleeping and I woke up and found all these dirty diapers on the floor. Some of them were open. Then there was a blonde baby boy who was about 1, and he was running around the bedroom. Then all of a sudden my boyfriend looked like this guy that I work with and he was crying. He said, “You have hurt me so much.” Then I looked at the ceiling all all of these black birds were on the ceiling. I wondered how they got there. Then I noticed that my bedroom walls looked like mesh and there were all these holes. So I thought I need to call my landlord about that. Do you think there is any meaning to this dream at all? So here is reality. I haven’t hurt my boyfriend, since our relationship is new. We don’t have any children.

Maybe it’s just a bad dream, or that is part of your future? Sorry. Not all of it will be your future. Maybe you might marry your bf or your co worker? And have a baby. IDK. haha

Peculiar. In your dream you’re living in a bird cage. The walls are perforated to let in air and light (“my bedroom walls looked like mesh and there were all these holes”), the floor is covered with, well, grit (“I woke up and found all these dirty diapers on the floor. Some of them were open.”), and there are other birds in the cage with you (“all of these black birds were on the ceiling”).

You’ve probably seen the film or the play “La Cage aux Folles”, about an aging drag queen, a drama queen really, and his lover. It isn’t much of a leap from the French “folles” (“birds”) to the English “fools”. In your dream you find yourself in the cage of fools, three of them, all boys. The first is a very young toddler (“a blonde baby boy who was about 1, and he was running around”), the second is your boyfriend, who changes as soon as you look at him into a whiny man from work (“all of a sudden my boyfriend looked like this guy that I work with and he was crying”). It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that you know a fourth whiny boy/man who actually said to you “You have hurt me so much.”

That’s because I’m reminded of the children’s nursery rhyme “Sing a song of sixpence / Pocket full of rye / Four and twenty blackbirds / Baked in a pie”. So perhaps there are twenty blackbirds (folles) above you, and four fools represented down below. That might also explain why the cage isn’t constructed with bars like most bird cages, but with perforated metal, suggesting both a ventilated pie tin and the ventilation holes in the top crust of a double-crusted pie. It would be too much to ask that one of these men is named “Merle” (Fr: blackbird), or maybe Haggard (a pun in some parts of the world).

“So I thought I need to call my landlord about that.” I’m sorry, that is *soooo* funny. You are really quite unflappable.
