Is the bible (or even just the commandments) really a good foundation for morals?
Do you have children?
Have they ever misbehaved beyond your control?

C. #5: “Honour thy father and thy mother.”
Punishment? Stone them to death? WTF?
Deuteronomy 21:18-21

Have you every worked on the Sabbath?
Has anyone you loved ever worked on the Sabbath?

C. #4 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. ..in it thou shalt not do any work.”
Punishment? Death for working on the Sabbath?? WTF?
Exodus 31:15

Are these the awesome morals everyone is talking about?

Do we see any bible-lovers taking part in these or could it be that, maybe, people pick and choose what they want to believe? Possibly because we have higher moral values than medieval power trippers?

Is there even any need for the bible other than a reason to support these atrocities since we have established that your morals exist outside of a medieval book?

Please don’t even bother posting if you’re going to side-step.

i think that the bible IS the best basis for a moral foundation that there is

the commandments were binding on the Jewish people of moses time and they didn’t have local or national laws before that

they didn’t have prisons either so holding someone in custody was not an issue they could indulge in either

thesedays – our nation is NOT a Jewish nation and the law was fulfilled under Christ so the law is no longer binding

The more I come here the more frustrated I get that the Bible is still in print.

Morals are not something you learned but were born with. You don’t have to tell a child to not steal – they will steal anyway and when you confront them about it, they will hang their head in shame and/or lie about doing it. Why?
Because deep inside, they know what they did was wrong and that’s why they feel shame and guilt.
They’re only 2!
How could they know shame or guilt?
They know, for God already put that inside of each and every one of us.

15and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

This is what God says in the Bible.
2Tim.2:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
“Rightly dividing the Word of truth” this is saying that there are certain time frames in the Bible that we need to understand. This could get quite exhaustive, so I would be glad to explain more if you would care to contact me. And yes, i do have scripture to back it up.

Oh its pretty obvious that you are just picking verses from the Bible , Because of Jesus we are under a new covenant , when you give your life to Jesus and let him rest rule and abide in you, there are things that Jesus just want allow ,yes he has high standards he created them, don’t you care to ask why all the bad things you do , are the things that are bad for you, Jesus don’t allow, he has our best interest in his hands, Satan don’t care what you do as long as it don’t line up with God, he likes to keep you confused about who God is , he knows who God is he was his right hand man til he got big headed………………AMEN

I people would follow the Bible there wouldn’t be any need for asinine questions we get on here. The Bible could bring peace to the world( even with the many different denominations ) If we all learned to live by our own and not persecute the others. Christians are persecuted daily, but then Jesus said we would be,for His word. There are failings on the Sabbath, because in this day and age , if you don’t work when yuo’re told ,then you don’t have a job. But, if you remember Jesus healed on the Sabbath and this helped lead to His crucifiction.Jesus said ,if an oxen fell into a ditch on the Sabbath, would you leave it there? Meaning that you would get it out. There are some cases where you have to work.So why condemn——why not study the whole scriipture especially read the N.T.?You really can’t just take a verse here and there and think it’s the way you have to be. You need to read it all and comprehend it.Yes there is reason for the Bible because it is the outline for a happy and glorious life—-if you follow it. The O.T is wonderful—-but–until you can grow in the faith and comprehend, I’s suggest you stay in the New Testement until you understand Jesus fully. You are getting very confused and confusing others. O.K.
